Holy Fire, Cleansing, and the Call to Arise
“Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.”
(Hebrews 12:28–29 KJV)
What is the fire of God if not His holiness?
The fire of God reveals who He is. His holiness does not make peace with sin; it exposes it, consumes what is unclean, and calls His people nearer to Himself.
The apostle Peter echoes this call for holiness in the believer.
“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
(1 Peter 1:15–16 KJV)
Holy fire, burn inside of me. Light me with Your holiness, O God. Burn our fleshly desires with Your holy Word, the Bible.
Holy Spirit, lead me to dive into His presence and luxuriate in Him.
O Lord, may we feel Your holiness, Your goodness. The deeper we press into Christ, the more we let go of our earthly desires, the more we understand His holiness.
Pour yourself out on the altar before Him and let the blood of Jesus cleanse you from your carnal self. Let all those earthly desires be placed at His feet.
The altar is not only the place where we ask God to remove something from us. It is the place where we give ourselves completely to Him.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
(Romans 12:1)
Lord, I give You not only my sin; I give You myself.
Cry out to God:
Lord, make me a clean vessel that I may be used to pour forth the will of Him who sits upon the throne.
He alone is holy. He alone is the perfect One.
Move closer to Him to be holy as He is holy. Seek His face. Run after Him as the Shulamite ran for her love.
Lord, I am running.
Surrender your old self to Him. Be safe in the arms of Jesus as you are refreshed with new life in Him, for He will not disappoint.
His Holy Love Is Not Casual
His holy love is not casual—it burns away everything that competes with Him.
“Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.”
(Song of Solomon 8:6)
The fire of God is not only a picture of judgment; Scripture also uses fire to describe the intensity of love. Song of Solomon speaks of love as “coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame” (Song 8:6), while Hebrews declares, “For our God is a consuming fire” (Heb. 12:29).
Church, call out to God with me as with the prophets of old.
Make me holy as You are holy. Let Your fire burn away everything in me that is not pleasing to You. Purge the dross, cleanse the vessel, and leave only what can be used for Your glory.
Before “Send Me” Came “Woe Is Me”
Isaiah records:
“Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.”
(Isaiah 6:5–7)
Remember, before Isaiah took the prophecy of the coming Messiah and the message from God to the King, he repented.
Before Isaiah could carry the message, he first had to stand in the presence of a holy God, see his own uncleanness, and be cleansed.
Before “send me” came “woe is me.”
Repent with me, Church. Be touched by holy fire.
Woe is me. Take the coal. Cleanse my lips.
We repent. Make us anew. Renew us.
Lord, renew us.
Here Am I; Send Me
God did not send an unclean Isaiah. First came holy conviction and repentance. Then came cleansing. Then came preparation for the call. Then came the call.
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
(Isaiah 6:8)
Use me, Lord.
I will go.
Send me.
The fire that cleanses us is not meant to leave us sitting at the altar. God cleanses His vessels because He intends to use them.
You are important to God.
Do not mistake conviction for rejection. When God exposes what must change, He is preparing the vessel, not dismissing you.
You are wanted.
You are loved.
God has much for you. Empty yourself of the things that are not from Him. Lay down the desires, distractions, and weights that keep you from hearing His voice. Believe that He has a mission for you.
Paul writes:
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
(1 Corinthians 2:9–10)
There are deeper things of God that cannot be reached while we are holding tightly to everything else. The Holy Spirit searches the deep things of God and reveals what He desires for His people. When we empty ourselves before Him, surrender our own plans, and allow His holiness to work within us, we become ready to hear His call.
Church, Who Will Go?
God has a purpose for your life.
He has a mission for you.
The question is whether we will become empty enough, clean enough, and willing enough to say, “Here am I; send me.”
Church, who will go with me?
Lord, I will go. Send me.
Church, arise.
Church, we have spent enough time asking for the fire while refusing the altar. If we ask for holy fire, we must also be willing to let God burn away what cannot go with us into the calling.
It is time. The fields are white. Who will go?
Church, arise and take your place.
The fields are white. The hour is late. The King is calling. Who will go?
Here am I, Lord. Cleanse me. Fill me. Send me.
You are born for such a time as this.
Arise, Church. Arise.
