A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck offshore near the southern Philippines on Monday, resulting in at least 32 deaths and more than 200 injuries, primarily due to structural damage. The quake also generated a tsunami with waves reaching about 1 meter (3 feet) along nearby coastal areas.
