“4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.”
Genesis 6:4
Blaze media reported that in England, giant axe heads were discovered by researchers from University College London (1).
According to researchers,
“The giant hand axes were crafted from flint stone and measure more than a foot long from tip to butt, plus have very thick bases.” “Scientists are baffled as to how prehistoric humans were able to use the large stone tools…” These hand axes are so big it’s difficult to imagine how they could have been easily held and used,” Letty Ingrey, a Senior Archaeologist at University College London), (2)…states, “We describe these tools as ‘giants’ when they are over 22cm long, and we have two in this size range.” (1)
Why should Christians care about giant tools being discovered by researchers? One reason is that Giants are mentioned in the Holy Bible. We must understand the Bible is inerrant and truthful with no error; however, Bible verses mentioning giants have long been used to call God’s Holy Word a fairy tale which is demonic and strikes at the inerrancy of the Holy Bible. The Bible stands alone as Truth and records true accounts. Scientific discoveries confirming giant axes exist come against the lies of the enemy who seeks to contaminate the Word. Once again, science does not verify the Bible is the truth. The Bible stands alone outside of time. The Holy Bible proves itself through the fulfillment of prophecies written thousands of years before their completion and over 500 eyewitness accounts of the resurrected Jesus, to name just a few (1 Corinthians 15:1-7). Only a Supreme Being could know the future, for Jesus is Alpha and Omega, and speak through holy men to record future events to read as they had happened.
Now let us look to God’s Word; several times, the Bible mentions the existence of giants. Detailing their height, the length of their weapons and here is a sampling of these verses,
1 Samuel 17:4-5
“4 And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
5 And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.”
Amos 2:9
“9 Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.”
1 Chronicles 20:4-5
“4 And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.
5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver’s beam”
The following verses state the account of God sending the men from the tribes of Israel to spy out the land. Of all the men, only two believed God would overcome the giants; Joshua and Caleb. Their reward was entering the promised land; all the others died in the wandering. You see, one of the keys to the failure of Israel, which incidentally led them to 40 years of suffering in the desert, was that they looked at the situation with their natural eyes. Fear accompanies the natural man, while courage accompanies faith. Joshua and Caleb believed in God, and their trust in God allowed them to believe in the impossible. Interesting to point out God called the statements of the unbelieving spies, who rejected God’s plan, an evil report.
Numbers 13:1-2, 32-33
“13 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them…
32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”
Do not let strongholds and the enemy torment you. Are there places in your life where you do not believe God’s Word? Remember, these spies were Israelites and on the same team as Joshua. Pray that you may see difficulties with eyes full of faith fixated on Jesus.
If you do, God will give you supernatural weapons to fight the good fight. Are there giants you need to believe the Lord will give you the strength to overcome?
I will end with Joshua 14:11-12, where Joshua recounts the strength the Lord has given him and states, “give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake.”
Joshua 14:11-12
“11As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said.”
Trust in Jesus, the overcomer who rose again to defeat death, hell, and the grave. He is the Conquerer!! We are overcomers through His authority. Lift His war banners high. Worship Jesus, the same God who fought for Joshua, is alive, for He is eternal. The triumphant King Jesus will give you divine power to overcome the enemy. Do not look at the circumstances but cling to our Savior, and let the Holy Spirit of God fill you to overflowing. His perfect love causes fear to run. Christ has defeated the enemy. You are His child; therefore, be strong and courageous in Christ, and like Joshua, claim that mountain that God has promised you.
