Holy Spirit Our Guide

Fellow brothers and sisters in the faith I pray this writing finds you well.  This post was written in response to a fellow soldier in Christ who contacted “Arsenal of The King.”  I want to encourage you that Abba Father loves each one of us so much He wanted a personal relationship with us and sent His Son, Y’shua to die for our sins so we could have reconciliation with Abba. (John 3:16)
Y’shua spoke encouraging words to His disciples in John 14, and 16 where He foretold of the coming of the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth who is also the Helper, our comforter who will teach us all things of Y’shua. (John 14) When we are born again believers, the Holy Spirit speaks to our spirit, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:16–NASB–1) “The Holy Spirit convicts of righteousness, sin, judgment and will guide us according to what Y’shua has said and done and will speak and reveal things to us. (John 14 and 16) Y’shua the Son of God did not leave us defenseless but sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost this same Spirit of Truth resides in us if we claim Y’shua as Messiah and our Savior. (John 14,15 and 16)
The following will give steps to take when facing a path or decision that is unclear, when you have been given a word from someone or have a warning or feel this is the leading of the Holy Spirit about a situation in your life, a word from a person or a warning or feeling that you might have.
  1. Repent: when seeking the guidance of the Lord concerning a difficult decision, go before the King, and repent for any sin or unforgiveness in your life which includes speech, thought, or action that might hinder you from making a wise decision (Acts 3:19).  In Psalm 51, King David wrote, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:11–NASB)
  2. Pray for wisdom as you read the Bible: we consider the Word of God our authority and in such is our ultimate advisor, so go to God’s Word and pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to you His wisdom that is available to all who seek it. “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and reproach, and it will given to him.” (James 1:5)
Not only is wisdom readily available to the believer who asks of God, but wisdom calls out to us in Proverbs 9, and we also learn that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)
  1. Schemes revealed:  pray and ask the Lord to reveal if this decision, word, warning or feeling is a scheme of the enemy to stop the plan of God, to get you off your path, to dirty your character or to confuse you. Devices the enemy uses are many and may come in the form of anxiety, fear, sadness, confusion, a lucrative job offer or relationship.  God revealed the enemies plan to Jeremiah and will reveal them to you. (2 Corinthians 2:9-11 and Psalm 64:6) Be warned Satan disguises himself as  an angel of light and the opportunity may look good so choose wisely and follow God’s Word. (2 Corinthians 11:14)
“Moreover, the LORD made it known to me and I knew it; Then You showed me their deeds.” (Jeremiah 11:18)
If it revealed to you that the circumstance you are faced with is a scheme of the enemy Y’shua has given us protection under His wings.  (Psalm 91) Pray through and read Psalm 91 out loud and claim the protection of God over your life, fear not HE is greater than the enemy. (I John 4:4-6)
  1. Check your actions: the Holy Bible is a mighty weapon for the soldiers of Y’shua, and the final guide in all things (Hebrews 4:12). Before making a decision, you must first check the Word to make sure that your actions would be condoned under scripture. In the case of a job, or an invitation to friends or a family party or any event you must ask yourselves is the action or actions I will be doing in agreement with scripture. Furthermore, is this job or event legal, or will there be drugs, sex, drinking or underage partying that involves me participating in a sin that is contrary to the Bible?  “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22–KJV–2). After reading the Bible and confirming it is not opposed to scripture and will not affect our Christian walk we are well on the way to making a decision.
“Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them. For it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, “Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.” Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise.” (Ephesians 5:5-15)
  1. A word from a person: what about when we receive a word or warning from another person, pray over the word and or warning (1 Thessalonians 5:20-24). To the best of your ability make sure the person who gave you the advice is living a holy life that produces fruits of the Holy Spirit, beware of false prophets. (Matthew 7:15-20)  Is what they say in agreement with the Holy Bible? Did you hear the truth in what they said? Do they have a proven history that the words they speak are true and are from God?
After you have done this, do not make changes in your life on the word of one person but prayerfully seek out confirmation using a combination of the truth of the Bible, the leading of the Holy Spirit, you can always seek advice from a trusted Pastor or elder, and pray, pray, and fast.
  1. Personal warning or feeling: what if you have the warning or feeling?  This could be a word of wisdom or word of knowledge which are found in 1 Corinthians.  How do you find out if this warning or feeling is from the Holy Spirit? Use the same steps listed above of prayer, repentance, and cleansing, asking the Lord to reveal any scheme of the enemy, reading the Word to confirm the warning or feeling, if it is a big decision seek out a Pastor or elder for advice. Remember the Lord wants to help you understand, and sometimes the Holy Spirit warns you to protect you or stop you from proceeding with a certain plan to keep you safe. In the book of Acts, the Holy Spirit warned the Apostle Paul.
“Except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.” (Acts 20:22,23)
  1. Ask Holy Spirit: after you have finished the above steps pray for guidance, always remember, Y’shua gave us the Holy Spirit to warn, protect, lead and guide us, show us secrets of what is to come. “But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”  (John 16:13-15)
Fellow soldiers in Y’shua be encouraged that our Holy God wants His children to know things and will help us make wise decisions. The Spirit of Truth reveals to us treasures of wisdom and knowledge that are in Christ Himself for all our needs for in, “Christ himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”  [Colossians 2:2,3]   Be fortified because Y’shua tells us, “My sheep hear my voice”, and remember the Holy Spirit always confirms Y’shua and the Word of God. So any choice or plan that goes against the Word of God is not of God no matter how good it looks. (John 10:27 and 1 Thessalonians 1:5) Take hope Abba God will lead the way, “He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher. Your ears will hear a word behind you, This is the way walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” (Isaiah 30:20,21)
This is a good day, we rejoice for “God shall supply all our needs”. (Philippians 4:19)
Take courage for you were born for “such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14)
I leave you with a portion of God’s words to Joshua. There is nothing more powerful than the Word of God, I pray you will be strengthened and fortified as you declare this portion of scripture over your life by reading it out loud.
“No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. “Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may have success wherever you go. “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”  (Joshua 1:5-9)
