I hope this Thanksgiving week finds you well and joyful as we break bread with our families and loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving. Let us be reminded of the first Thanksgiving when, in the Sovereignty of God, Christ answered the petitions of the settlers and provided for the Pilgrims through the Native Americans. The first Pilgrims were on the point of starvation. The Pilgrims prayed, and God sent the Native American tribes to bring them food. So the story goes: the Pilgrims and Native Americans feasted together at one table, and the Pilgrims gave glory to God for His provisions. Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude, so let us seek to help others who are not so fortunate. Let us look to those in need from Hurricane Helene who are living in devastated towns, cities, farms, and forests of Appalachia; God is a relational God who wants to use you and your family to bless others.
In the Spirit of Thanksgiving, you can petition Father God to provide for the people who are rebuilding after this disaster. Just like God answered the Pilgrim’s prayers by sending the Native Americans food to prevent starvation, God can use you to pray and donate (see the links below) if you can, and PRAY for people to give donations, equipment, workers, food, water, housing for the families, and shelter for the work crews. Let us join in prayer to support the families.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19).
The needs of the people are urgent, and PRAYER IS NEEDED because many of these families are living in tents or subpar dwellings with their children, disabled family members, and seniors facing freezing temperatures in Appalachia. They need assistance as they struggle to rebuild their lives and communities. Imagine how devasting it is to lose your home, livestock, and job simultaneously. Even though we may not live nearby, you can help by interceding to Sovereign God to provide whatever they need. Remember, prayer is a way God can use you to help them.
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” (1 Tim. 2:1).

Severe cold weather will affect western North Carolina, this week where many sufferers of Hurricane Helene are living in cars or tents, “According to FOX Weather reports, a significant cold front is currently impacting the Appalachian region, bringing frigid temperatures and potential snowfall to the higher elevations. Wind chill values will likely fall below 0 degrees.”
According to NWS, “An arctic cold front will generate snow showers across the North Carolina mountains tonight. An arctic front will move through the area early Friday, resulting in plummeting temperatures. Please pray.
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” (Eph. 6:18).
This Thanksgiving, if we have a roof over our heads, heat, food, water, and clothes, we are blessed by Almighty God. Unfortunately, these people need the essentials of life (warmth, housing, food, clean water, clothes, and medical) for themselves, their pets, livestock, neighbors, and communities who have lost everything in the devastating hurricane that swept their region of the country, need our prayers and help (a food basket, a donation, money, or even man or woman power)—whatever you and your family can spare.
