Fighting for Truth in a Culture of Lies: Truth Defined

Defining truth will equip you to hold truth and that which is true. The Word of God holds truth, as it is considering the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15). Holding onto truth teaches steadfastness, holding onto your faith, and cutting away the lies of this world.

Truth in Highest Form

First and foremost, truth is defined what the Word of God is. Everything from the Word of God is true (John 17:17). Jesus states He came to bear witness unto the truth. Those of the truth listen to God’s voice, therefore the truth is primarily in God’s word.

It is commonly claimed that Pilate stumped Jesus with the question, what is truth?

“38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?…” (John 18:38a)

But what occurred is in Jesus’s foreknowledge, He informed Pilate of what is truth, that being what Jesus Christ spoke.

“37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” (John 18:37).

When Jesus states that those that hear His voice are of the truth, He already answered Pilates question, by defining truth as Jesus’ voice or the Word of God. So, the truth is defined what the Word of God is.

                Also, Jesus defines himself as,

“6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).

Jesus Christ is defined as the Word of God, full of grace and truth (John 1:14). So how can he both be full of truth, and be truth?

“Christ is the truth, not merely ethical “truth,” but “truth” in all its fullness and scope, as embodied in Him: He was the perfect expression of the truth Ephesians (Ephesians 4:21).” https://arsenaloftheking.com/2021/04/02/the-wonderful-jesus-christ/

It is speaking of Jesus’ nature, he holds all truth, which is why he is full of truth, and defined as the Word of God, the physical being of God’s Word. For simplicity sake, we will focus on God holding all truth, but remember God’s nature is truth, he cannot lie (Numbers 13:19, Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18). To seek truth is to seek Jesus, for truth is in God. We will get back to this; first, I must explain it from a functional perspective.

Truth Functional

Truth is simply what is true (accurate, fact, something that is not a lie). Meaning it coincides with reality. Reality being that which the Lord created. Truth is also objective, meaning it does not change from person to person, although truth seems like it is ever-changing.

How can truth be perceived as ever-changing? Because our world is in a constant motion of change, down to your cell structure, the debris and winds around us, even our thought pattern. The present is in a perpetual motion, and the past was from the beginning of time to just prior. For this reason, the world is changing, it is perceived truth is changing, the structure of an apple changes with a season, so the truth that the apple was unripe turns into the truth the apple is ripe.

However, the flaw in this reason is it presumes truth is in a place of only the present time. Truth exists in the three ways of time, past, present, and future. I once was a boy; I am now a man, and I will be an old man. Of course, I may die before being an old man; for the sake of argument, let us presume an old man is age 65 and that I will become that age.

Truth is not changing in these three; no truth is only showing what something is. So it is not that truth is consistently changing, but that our world is. Let us use the example of the apple, The apple was unripe, and now the apple is ripe. The only thing that changes here is the terms of the passage of time. However, truth did not change, and we simply define the time of when something was. Truth still holds that the apple is unripe at a time and is ripe at a time. If we are in the present time of the apple’s ripeness, the term may be the apple was unripe, but the truth is unaffected by our terms.

Of course, it would be a lie to say the apple is unripe now, but the truth did not change. The term “now” is a term to mean right now in the place of time. Whereas truth lives outside of our terms, it sees more the exact moment when the apple is unripe, when the apple is ripe, and when the apple is rotten.

Truth remains constant that something existed at specific point in time. Truth lives outside of time because it is used to figure if something is accurate with reality. Even though we are held to the present, truth would point to the place in time of which something occurred in any place in time, from beginning to end.

So, the truth is objective and is not held to our words, nor comprehension, instead it exists within God.

God Holds All Truth

This shows that Jesus has truth because He was, He is, and He will be (Revelation 1:8). God created our reality, and holds what is true, and knows everything that coincides with the world and everything God has created (Colossians 1:16-17) Which is how truth exists outside of time, because God alone holds the entirety of truth.

Now truth exists outside of our minds, and God alone holds it. Yes, a being that has existed always and outside of our space-time continuum holds truth. I do not believe truth is able to be objective without an eternal being able to hold truth. We are fallible and can believe lies, but He always possesses truth and knows the truth. This is why the belief in the Creator is necessary to hold an objective belief in truth, and other beliefs in truth becomes dependent upon a human-made idea, which is fallible.

Understanding this, it is important to remain humble. None of us have truth in its entirety. We may think we know the truth at times, but that which we thought was truth was actually found false. Not because truth was affected, but our perception of what was true changed. [Perception is a key thing used by the enemy to manipulate/lie and deceive people.]

Perception and Knowledge

Truth is not perception; truth is not knowledge. Perception is what is believed, knowledge is to know something about something, but knowledge of something does not make it true (1 Timothy 6:20). I can know about C.S. Lewis’ fiction books, but yet it does not make them true to our present reality, you do not see a talking giant lion, nor does walking in a wardrobe make us end up in a mythical place.

The Pursuit for Truth

So now that truth is defined as an objective truth that God possesses, can we even obtain truth (Isaiah 65:16)? The answer is yes; science is a way to test our world with experiments to find if something is true, using our perception and knowledge. An example of a truth found through science is that we as the human race all have hearts. Also, through experimentation we may find the truth at times, and not even know it, but it does not change that we have found something true about our world.

Now science at times, even widely held facts about science, is false. Which is why science must be tested tested tested. I find it funny when some people call others a science denier, because science is just a method to find out about the tangible world, and the method is prone to human error.

Truth can be discovered in other ways as well. However, the primary source of truth is Christ. The highest value of knowledge is the Word of God, as it possesses pure truth. It has been tested, through and through, to be true and contains truth as it is created and made by God. Although even if it had not been tested, it is still true, we have just found that it is indeed true. Such as using a metal detector to find treasure, the treasure was still there regardless of if the person was able to find it’s location.

Hold Fast with the Sword of Truth and Stand Firm with Faith in the Word of God

So, if you want to physically hold the truth, my friend, hold onto the Word of God as if it is the most treasured possession to ever exist from the beginning of time. To obtain the truth about reality in which God created is to search the Word of God. Yes, people can perceive the words differently, but it does not change the fact that the Word of God contains the truth. Translations may change the words, but a transliteration does not change the meaning behind the words. The message is still there, and the truth is still present. As the meaning of those words combined with sentence structure, paragraphs, even numerical ways contain a meaning which is the truth.

Now it is our job to make sure the enemy does not twist the Word of God and trick us, but to understand the Word of God. We may never fully grasp everything God is trying to tell us through His Word. But searching will lead us to hold the truth found in the Word.

Science may change, religions may change, philosophers may change, ideas may change, but the Word of God NEVER changes.

To hold the TRUTH in a culture of LIES, one must hold the Word of God as if it contains the truth, because it does. Use it as a means to contest ideas, use it as means to hold fast to faith, use it as a means to believe JESUS IS. Arm yourself, my friend, arm yourself with the Word of God. and ATTACK WE ARE ON THE OFFENSE WITH THE SWORD OF THE WORD OF GOD (Hebrews 4:12).

We will not back down but ideologically push back against satan through apologetics and DECLARING the Word of God (Ephesians 6:12). Enough of going on the defense, Like Joshua, stand firm with me and Know the Word of the Lord and march forward towards conquest. A spiritual and ideological conquest. A retaliatory crusade through the meta-physical of other ideas, philosophies, and religion until the only one left standing is the Word of God (Colossians 2:8).
